Structure vs function
Retinal imaging shows how the eye looks; visual function shows how it works. Think of a car: imaging checks under the hood, function takes it for a drive. Most tests outside the hospital only look under the hood. SONDA adds the test drive in the time it takes to make a coffee, with maximum comfort for the patient.
For glaucoma you need both. Eye pressure alone is not a reliable screen: many people with glaucoma have normal-range pressure, and raised pressure on its own is not glaucoma. Fitness to drive
The Esterman binocular field is the visual field standard behind most driving-licence assessments. SONDA runs the same pattern, but with the objectivity of eye movement responses. Same format, less stress. N.B.: this is a non-diagnostic test, not to be used for medical diagnosis.
Progressive lenses
Comfort in a progressive lens depends on how much a customer moves their head versus their eyes, and no refraction shows that. Two short tests, as simple as reading a paragraph and following a few dots, measure it objectively and place the customer on an eye-mover to head-mover scale. The design that fits their profile, Standard, Balanced or Premium wide-field, becomes a measurement rather than a guess: a lens the customer is comfortable in from day one, fewer non-adapt complaints, and none of the cost of a refit.
